Weekends with India-Rose

Tell us a little about yourself (name, where you live, what you do)

Hello! My name is Indiarose, I’m 19 years old and I’m from Byron Bay.

I work as a model and a dancer, & am working to become an actress, but I don’t define who I am by the jobs I do or the career path I take. I’m just trying to be the best possible version of myself that I can be, and taking life as it comes day by day.

Where can we find you most weekends?

Most weekends you’ll find me at the beach, like every other person in Byron, or cruising around town in the love of my life, otherwise known as my Gorgeous 1985 red Mercedes. I love spending time wandering around the local markets whenever they're on either in Byron or Bangalow, and I also love having a little boogie if there are any good bands or DJ’s playing around town later in the evening.

Describe your ideal long weekend getaway..

My ideal long weekend getaway would have to be spending a weekend in Bellingen. There’s something almost otherworldly about it’s absolutely pristine beauty, the divine, fresh produce, and the peace and serenity of being surrounded by so much untouched nature. I’ve only spent a couple of days there before, but I’m planning on doing a little road trip from Byron and spending a weekend there sometime soon/when I have the time.

What do you love most about where you live?

What don’t I love about where I live hahah! Honestly I’m so fortunate not only to live in one of the most beautiful places in the world (in my very biased opinion), but also to live in an area that is safe, accepting, respectful and very socially & politically aware. Aside from the most beautiful and pristine beaches and landscapes, delicious food, organic homegrown produce, and so many ethical and environmentally friendly local businesses, the people of Byron are such lovely, free spirited, aware and easy going humans.

My favourite recent moments in Byron have been dancing in the drum circle on main beach. The sun setting in peachy, pastel tones, the moon rising as the night falls, and the electric energy, jumping around through the vibrations of the drums, and the feet of ecstatic dancers in the centre of the circle, and everyone is smiling, enjoying the richness and beauty of life in the moment. It’s magical.

Favourite local spots?

Watego’s is definitely my favourite beach, I love grabbing my beach bag, driving there just after midday, and spending the rest of the afternoon relaxing with a good book, some fruit and my music.

My favourite spots to eat are Cardamom pod, Kombi, Elixiba (all plant based & paleo food and drinks made from scratch. So amazing!) and Luscious, which have the best falafel pockets/platters in town. Top shop & Sparrow also do a mad macadamia milk coffee, and Bare blends in the industrial estate has the most incredible smoothie concoctions, Macca macadamia mango is my personal favourite.

What are your beach essentials?

When do you feel most like yourself?

No makeup, bare feet, a big salty mane of hair, listening to whatever music I’m feeling, having a little dance, and always smiling.

Favourite book to curl up with?

‘Breath’ by Tim Winton

What are you listening to lately?

This is always such a difficult question for me to answer! I listen to so much & such a large variety of different music on a daily basis, depending on many different factors like what kind of mood I’m in or would like to be in, what activities I’m doing, or if I’m entertaining guests or alone etc.

My favourite artist of all time is David Bowie. I don’t think a single day goes by where I don’t listen to at least one of his songs. I really enjoy some of his less mainstream tracks and collaborations, such as ‘Pretty Pink Rose’, a duet with Adrian Belew, ‘Kooks’, ‘The stars (are out tonight)’, and ‘Soul Love’, possibly my favourite song of all time. I’ve also recently been binging on The Cure, The Smiths, The Doors, & 70’s and 80’s Disco & Soul such as Earth, Wind & Fire, Al Green, Marvin Gaye & the Bee Gees, always has a special place in my heart. My dad and I are real Disco babies and will always tear up the dance floor if someone plays disco. Then on the other end of the spectrum I love Hiatus Kaiyote, Bonobo, Motor City Drum ensemble, Booka Shade, Project Pablo & St Germain, and that’s only to name a few!
